We met a most handsome, well behaved, smart and philanthropic, one year-old on Tuesday. His name is Jaxon Anthony Pemberton. Jaxon has no idea yet, how very lucky he is, but our sense is that he will grow up inherently understanding the power of giving and service.
Jaxon’s mother Elizabeth and father Joseph started a birthday tradition, beginning on his first birthday; that Jaxon, besides growing up to be healthy, well educated and faithful, would also understand his place in the world and his responsibility to help others. Jaxon donated several dozen brand new presents to help us with our Happy Birthday Program.
Jaxon’s father told us – “We were encouraged to give through the word of God which states, “If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and be filled, and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?”. This will be our family’s tradition on my son’s birthday. Our hope is that he will grow up with a sense of responsibility to, not only his fellow human beings, but also to his community – because we all have gifts to give.
