At first glance it is bittersweet – to see our original home being demolished – but then we think about what Paul Bloom said – “We are constituted so that simple acts of kindness, such as giving to charity or expressing gratitude, have a positive effect on our long-term moods. The key to the happy life, it seems, is the good life: a life with sustained relationships, challenging work, and connections to community.”
We own a simple truth – we could never have opened our model in New Bedford without the help of amazing people and volunteers. For the Millers (Rose and Rick) to offer us the original New Bedford space and now the new space in Acushnet at such significant discounts – allowed us to grow out of an idea and into building a constituency and ultimately to building a more caring and connected community. Now with the sustaining help of our volunteer management crew and all our volunteers, we’re building capacity we could never have even imagined.
