Happy Birthday Grace!

Happy Birthday

28-hopper“It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.”

Grace Brewster Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906 – January 1, 1992) was an American computer scientist and United States Navy Rear Admiral. She was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer in 1944,  invented the first compiler for a computer programming language, and was one of those who popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages which led to the development of COBOL, one of the first high-level programming languages.

Owing to her accomplishments and her naval rank, she is sometimes referred to as “Amazing Grace”. The U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Hopper (DDG-70) is named for her, as is the Cray XE6 “Hopper” supercomputer at NERSC. She was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama on November 22, 2016.

GiftsToGive Happy Birthday Program

With over 40,000 South Coast children living in poverty, the need is truly overwhelming. Over 4,000 local children are homeless!

Make a difference in a child’s life! Join us in celebrating your birthday or the birthday of a child you love; by giving birthday presents to local children in-need. One celebration can help dozens of children.

Be bold – host a huge birthday celebration party – ask your guests to bring gifts for a GiftsToGive child. Organize a celebration for your child or grandchild, niece or nephew. Through this process help the “Birthday Child” understand that their birthday can make a real difference and then arrange a visit to the factory to drop off their gifts, and for you to “show this special child” in the most tangible of ways, the power of giving!

The real gift for this child that you love? – learning the power of giving, to help others. The gift for you? – well actually it is priceless!
