A bright and shining light called Brenden.

Youth Philanthropy

We met a remarkable young man several months ago. Brenden Alexander. Brenden was working on his Eagle Scout Project and asked for our assistance. He wanted to help local homeless people. We connected Brenden to George Bailey at Mobile Ministries. Mobile Ministries is a social outreach ministry for the homeless and indigent working poor. Their mission is to provide food, clothing, and dignity to people in need. They accomplish this mission through the use of  a roving catering truck that goes out onto the city streets of New Bedford six nights a week. The truck serves 52,000+ meals per year and distributes much needed clothing and other essentials directly to people who need them. Rather than we telling the rest of the story, we asked Brenden to write about what he did.

“My name is Brenden Alexander an Eagle Scout candidate with Troop 51, Acushnet. My Eagle Scout service project worked to gather donations of winter coats, hats, gloves and socks for our local homeless. I visited local stores and requested items from family, friends and businesses. All items were logged and boxed into categories. Together with my Scoutmaster we delivered 29 boxes to GiftsToGive to be stored for Mobile Ministries for them to give to those in need. I was able to achieve my goal donation to Mobile Ministries of 50 items to clothe the homeless plus many additional miscellaneous items and blankets. I am grateful for the generosity of many and the time given to assist me with my Eagle Scout project completion. Thank You again for helping me to help others,” Brenden Alexander.

We hear a lot about the power of one, Brenden is a most perfect example of exactly what is best about young people. Brenden for us, is truly a bright and shining light.
